Also known as an alligator pear or butter fruit, the versatile avocado is the only fruit that provides a substantial amount of healthy monounsaturated fatty acids.

The avocado seed was considered for a long time as food production waste. Biofase®, based in Mexico, developed a process to generate the first non-food based bioplastic resin. Not using food sources such as corn or potatoes, reducing the abuse of agricultural landscape for industrial bio-material production, the seeds of the avocado fruits are used as raw material to extract a biopolymer usable for the production of fully biodegradable plastic.
